No, need to press the handle button and lift the gate at the same time. This gate has a double-lock design, and the gate must be lifted up to open the latch below.
Regularly check the closing condition of the door lock. It is recommended to check and adjust the width of the gate once a month to prevent the C-buckle from loosening.
This gate uses a hardware-mounted design and is not meant to be removed regularly. Removing it involves unscrewing from the wall, so we recommend it for more permanent setups.

As a professional handyman, I have installed many baby Gates from various manufacturers. I find Babelio gates to be well made, easy to install and easy to use. I recommend them to all my customers that need a baby gate.
This product is excellent and exactly what I wanted. It is solid in structure and blends well into my house. I love the "auto-shut" feature. I can just walk through either way, and the gate shuts and latches behind me.
I watched the video of the guy installing the gate at the top of his stairs and thought "piece of cake". I've now spent over an hour trying to get the latch to actually LATCH and I'm no closer than when I started. One problem is it was almost impossible to screw screws into my pre-drilled holes because the gate itself blocked my drill driver or screwdriver. But now that I have the gate hanging vertically on the wall, I can't seem to locate the top catch so that it latches correctly. It either swings through the top catch because it's too far away or hits the catch because it's too close. I can't find a middle ground. Shouldn't be this difficult.

Excellent instructions for installation. Comes with block type tools to ensure gate is level. Instructions tell you exactly what drill bit to use which was great. Very easy to use. Secure. We have taller trim and the gate still worked just fine.
