There is a gap at the latch before installation. Is it broken?

No, it is not broken. This is a pressure-mounted baby gate. The gap is part of the manufacturing design and will close automatically once you tighten the tension bolts against the wall.

Does the gate close automatically?

Yes! It features an Auto-Close design that locks behind you when released. It also has a Stay-Open feature: simply push the door past 90 degrees, and it will remain open for easy walk-through access.

Can I install this at the top of stairs?

For the top of stairs, we specifically recommend hardware-mounted gates (like our Babelio B17) for maximum safety because they have no bottom bar. If you must use this C5 baby gate on stairs, please ensure you use the included wall cups for added stability.
